What Is CPR

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and is used to increase the chances of survival for a person who has suffered an arrhythmia or heart attack. This technique is not a substitute for medical attention, and is only a temporary solution until help arrives. The first step in dealing with a situation in which there is a possibility of any type of heart related issue is to call for help. Do not simply assume that help will arrive. As soon as help is known to be on its way, check for a pulse by placing your first two fingers on the side of the throat, just below where the jawbone connects to the rest of the skull. Do not spend any longer than ten seconds looking for a pulse. If a pulse can not be found, immediately begin chest compressions, and rescue breaths. More info: CPR Denver
